I spent the whole day doing my favorite thing...hanging out with pregnant women and babies.
As a doula, I have had the opportunity to attend hospital births--which I am so grateful to have been invited and loved every minute.
Now that I'm training with a midwife as a Birth Assistant, I am loving the homebirth experiences...what a remarkable difference.
I've had hospital, birth center, and home births myself. Each resulted in a miracle: A baby!
And I would NEVER stand on a soapbox and tell every woman I meet that there's only one way to have a child...but I will tell you this:
if you have a choice (meaning you are risk-free) just know you have options. And those options are worth investigating.
Knowing those options and choosing for yourself is empowering.
Witness this awesome momma.
Momza! whew! this has GOT to be in the top ten list of weirdest things we've seen. :-0
ReplyDeletenot judging, just saying, thank G-D we'll never have to give birth, 'cause rest assured based on how we deal with paper cuts, we'd NEVER sing while in labor.
anyhoo,
thanks for another interesting post. :-)

This is beautiful and amazing. I am so grateful to my girls who have allowed me to witness the miracle of their childbirths. When I was in the middle of it myself, I didn't appreciate it. What a wonderful experience you are having!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for sharing that beautiful mother and her music. I wish I had a recording of it.
ReplyDeleteI really loved this.
Absolutely beautiful. Do you know what that song is? I love it. I love this mama, this song. For my own reasons, I needed the births that I had. I don't have any regrets. I don't envy women who can go the natural, at home route. But I do admire them and enjoy the birthing experiences they have.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for a natural birth this time, and doing more preparation this time (which I had no time for with Katrina--hello, baby during finals week!). I'm reading books and doing exercises and have been feeling pretty good about it. My doctor is supportive and the hospital won't make me be tied to an IV like at my last birth. But these past few days I have been writhing with awful stomach cramps from indigestion, which I remember being pretty similar to how my contractions with Katrina felt. My confidence is now shot! I know I have six more months to prepare physically and mentally, but wow, NOTHING touched this pain.
ReplyDeleteTori: Indigestion pain is not the same as waves of labor. As you prepare mentally for birth, you will feel better & more prepared. Talk to women who have made the same choice to have natural births and gleen information from them...or talk to Natural Childbirth instructors. You can watch more youtube videos...being mentally/emotionally ready for childbirth is as important as physically. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteI agree...there are many ways to give birth...my main goal is the safety of the mother and child ! My Great Grandma was the mother of 13, all home births and she was the country Doctor's assistant/midwife too.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I prefer the hospital and I am amazed that lady in the video was singing...I was too busy during my labors focusing and breathing to sing...that came later, when I held my newborns in my rocking chair and sang them a lullabies.
