Prove me now herewith...a question about Tithing.

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." ~Malachi

Have you ever had a powerful experience with the law of Tithing?
Did you "prove [God] now herewith"?

Have your blessings from paying tithing always been temporal/financial or were there other blessings that came as a result of tithing?

How did you know that those blessings were indeed from paying tithes and offerrings?

What's the best advice you've ever received or given about paying an honest tithe?

I had a Bishop once who said, "Tithing isn't about money, it's about Faith."

What do you think?

  1. We've always been pretty blessed financially, and I've always attributed it to tithing. But it's my son and daughter-in-law that are a good example of tithing being about faith, not money. They have NOT always been blessed financially, but they've never stinted on their tithing, and so far they have come through every crisis. When their faith has been tested, they've always come through for the Lord, and that makes me proud of them.

  2. Definitely about faith. This last month, I hesitated about paying tithing right away, because I knew it was going to be tight. I thought I could just wait for this one reimbursement check to come, then I will pay. Then I thought Satan is just trying to get to me, things will work out. That morning I put the tithing in the mail, and that same day I noticed a miscalculation in my money log. Money wasn't as tight as I had thought! Faith!

  3. I agree it is based on faith. It is a question of "Do I have enough faith to be obedient to a commandment and trust in the Lord?" We had several times in our earlier years where money was very tight and we didn't see how we could pay all our bills. But we always paid our tithing and some how it all worked out. We didn't have an abundance, but we always had enough.

But I don't think the greatest blessings of paying tithing have anything to do with the Lord providing for our temporal needs. Tithing is used to build temples and when we attend the temple the windows of heaven are literally opened to us and spiritual blessings poured out upon us. And the more temples built around the world, the more people have access to those blessings.

  4. Whenwe were first married Hubby and I bought some roller blades after one pay period, but didn't have enough to buy the pads. The thought of staring at our soon to be fun made it tempting to spend our tithing, but with our rent due the following week we knew there was no way it would work out moneywise if we bought the pads at that point. We opted to pay our tithing and then found out the day after we had won this new drawing at our complex giving us $100 of our month's rent....needless to say we were able to buy our pads soon after. It wasn't life or death, but it made an impact on my mind.

  5. I was laid off from my first job on a Friday. The following Wednesday, I reckoned up my finances and put a tithing check in the mail. No more than three hours later, the company called me to offer me back my job--with a raise@

  6. Absolutely Faith first. We've had finacial blessings, that could be associated to tithing, it is hard to tell we are so blessed by our Heavenly Father just to be alive.

But when we pay our tithing and our other offerings, privately and never under scrutiny, we (my husband and I) always feel an overpowering sense of safety and power to overcome the devil. That is strength we need daily, we could never do without it. There is no room to receive all the blessings He pours on us, in our ignorance we turn some down sometimes. Tithing brings spiritual blessings first but often times hand in hand with physical blessings.
