Disneyland: Getting There?

I've been to Mickey's World alot
when my oldest kids were young.
But the youngest two yahoos
haven't ever been,
and I'm trying to put together
a great vacation for this summer.

So I'm asking the question:
What's the best way to plan a trip to Disneyland
this summer?

Do I buy a "Package Deal" online,
or piece it together myself?

We're thinking two days is good enough for D-land,
then a day at California Adventureland,
two days in Santa Barbara (Mr W's sis lives there),
and a couple of days in San Fran (Mr W's bro lives there)
with a trip to San Diego's Sea World in there too.

Suggestions?
Ideas?
Thanks so much!

  1. Well it's early enough that you start doing some research now to "piece it together" by yourself and then see what kind of package deals are available... And then go with whatever is cheaper or less hassle for you. We have yet to make that trip with our family too. But it won't happy anytime soon. Good luck with that.

  2. Well, I draw a blank here. We've never done Disneyland.
Good luck with the whole thing though.

  3. Hey Dawn:)- We have had the best luck getting our hotel on priceline- we've never paid more than $55 a night for 4+ stars in Anaheim on name your own price, and most of the hotels have free shuttles to and from D-land so you don't have to pay for parking.
Then, buy your D-land tickets off Craigslist once you get there- it sounds fishy but totally works. We tried it a couple years ago and havn't gone back since we save so much and go 1-2 x a year.
    love ya!!! :)

  4. I am lazy, but I'm also cheap. And the package deal was the best of both worlds for us. Seriously. I would do it again in a heartbeat. No questions asked.

  5. As a resident of socal, don't do a package! There are TONS of hotels in Anaheim that I'm sure are cheaper than a package deal. And if it is possible, Costco is offering ticket deals to Disney as well. Not sure if it is available in your area, but I've seen it here. But that sounds like oodles of fun!

  6. We're thinking about the same trip this summer. But it depends on whether some military-husband- stuff happens or doesn't happen. I had the same questions that you do... package or piece meal? So I'll be checking back to spy on your comments. I also wonder if it's cheaper to fly or drive to Anaheim from Colorado. Which one are you planning on doing?

  7. I'm not sure what the best way to go is, but you are going to have a blast, that's for sure.

In fact, the whole trip sounds great!

  8. Just buy park hoppers...somewhere where you can get a discount. Go back and forth as you want...I wouldn't plan on an entire day at Cal. Adventure...but that's just me. Then, keep your eyes open for a good deal hotel. There are plenty within walking distance.

  9. I know they have 3-day park hopper passes. We plan on going in May. The kids get 3 days off in May for the county fair, so that's when we're going to go. A lot of folks in our county choose Disney over Fair 'cause no one else has that week off, so Disney isn't that busy then! Anyhoo, my youngest 2 haven't been yet either, so we're excited!

  10. I like to do my own thing when we go. I plan where I stay and all that stuff, but you might be able to get a good deal on one of the Southern California passes, those include most of what you are talking about doing and you save some money. check them out. I would do an internet search. Look for Mousesavers.com. They are pretty good for helping you save on your vacation.

  11. Funny timing. We just checked in to our hotel room and the kids can't WAIT to get to Disneyland tomorrow morning! We looked around a lot at all of our options, and we ended up going with a package from Costco. We wanted a place that had a decent breakfast. We are in a Suite hotel with a warm complimentary breakfast and a kitchen so we can cook some food if we want. We are packing in lunches. With Costco you also get a character dining experience in your package, which even I am excited for. The weather right now is perfect, not too cold but not hot either. We also got a family pass for the Anaheim Resort Transit. We just drove around the park tonight and even the hotels right across the street are a pretty good walk, so we thought the transit was a good idea. Good luck planning!
