Some of my favorite scenes from "Designing Women"--my all-time favorite sitcom.

  1. I was so sad when I heard that Dixie had passed away over the weekend. She wasn't really that old.

I always loved Designing Women and I loved her elegance and spunk.

    She will be missed!

  2. I was sad too! I loved Designing Women... mostly because Julia Sugarbaker capitalized on being southern, AND brilliant.

  3. I agree. Dixie was quite a character, and you couldn't help but like her. I heard her interviewed last year, and she was really down to earth and appealing.

    Sorry to see her go.

  4. Momza, I just spent a half hour watching clips from Designing Women, prompted by the few samples you gave us here. I always thought Dixie Carter did good things for the image of the southern woman -- you can, indeed, speak with a southern accent and still have a brain. Thanks for this!

  5. I was so shocked that Dixie Carter died.. she seemed so invincible, strong and soft as velvet at the same time, a steel magnolia for sure...she was such a wonderful actress, enjoyed by millions !

  7. I hated to see that she had passed away. She was one of my favorite actresses and I loved Designing Women....although, most of the lines that have stuck in my brain seem to be Suzanne's.

Thanks for putting up the clips, Dawn.

Praying for her husband and daughters.

  8. I loved, loved, loved that show. My favorite Julia moments were when Annie Potts told her that she and Queen Elizabeth were probably the only two people on earth who hadn't pulled a dirty shirt out of the laundry, ironed it, and worn it. Or the one where she defends Suzanne to some small-minded women (I think at some high school reunion or something) and tells this story about Suzanne throwing her baton when it was on fire and Julie ending the story with "And THAT'S the night that the lights went out in Georgia!" I miss that show and Dixie was one classy lady....

  9. That was a lot of fun!! I have been laughing for ten minutes straight!! I loved that show and it was fun to see the clips from it. I have always been a bit envious of the way she told off the girl in the bathroom. There have been time I have wished I could be that brave, bold and eloquent. Although it is probably better I have never done it. :-)
